Our Women’s Missionary Union meets monthly on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m.
At our regular meetings, we pray for missionaries and learn about missions. We often have a guest speaker or participate in a mission activity. We also collect money to purchase food for Urban Ministries and to provide for women’s ministries through Caring Connections.
Our organization sponsors church-wide mission activities such as:
Tabernacle Linen Closet
The Women’s Missionary Union partners with North Raleigh Ministries, First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, and the Raleigh Baptist Association to collect new and gently used linens. The linens are then distributed to the following organizations: The Green Chair Project, FPC Friendship Ministry, Wake County Human Services, Salvation Army, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Migrant Ministry, Volunteers of America, Love Wins Homeless Ministry, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The WMU encourages church members to donate new and gently used linens, and the donations can be delivered to the kitchenette area at the Tabernacle Baptist Church entrance. Linen donations can include:
- sheets and pillow cases
- towels and washcloths
- kitchen linens
Several members of WMU participate in the distribution of linens to the various organizations. Donations to the Linen Closet are greatly appreciated.
Food Roundup for NC Baptist Children’s Homes
Baptist Children’s Homes serves all 100 counties of North Carolina with locations in 21 North Carolina communities plus an orphanage in Guatemala.
When churches, businesses and other community friends unite for the annual Food Roundup, it feeds hundreds and hundreds of boys and girls living at Baptist Children’s Homes. Our annual collection takes place every April; donations can be made in the Gathering Place.
North Raleigh Ministries
North Raleigh Ministries is an organization that provides neighbors in crisis with necessary assistance through a Christian environment.
Our WMU is involved with North Raleigh Ministries in several ways:
- volunteering in the Food Pantry and Thrift Store
- collecting donations for the Back Pack Buddies program
- collecting food donations for the Food Pantry
WMU encourages church members to volunteer their time and services to this organization and to donate clothing and household items to the Thrift Store.
Operation Christmas Child
Each November, the church collects toys in specially-designed Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes from Samaritan’s Purse. The boxes are sent with boxes from other Raleigh churches to the packing warehouse near Charlotte, North Carolina for distribution throughout the world before Christmas.
